13.01.2023 - Dominique Metzler, langjährige Veranstalterin der SPIEL in Essen, wird sich Ende Januar aus der aktiven Organisation der weltgrößten Brettspielmesse zurückziehen. Auf Facebook schrieb sie dazu Folgendes:

"Nach rund 40 Jahren heißt es: Tschüß, liebe SPIELer. Denn zum 31.01.2023 scheide ich als Geschäftsführerin des Friedhelm Merz Verlages und somit aus dem aktiven Geschäft aus. Bis Ende des Jahres stehe ich lediglich noch beratend im Hintergrund zur Verfügung. Danke an all die vielen Menschen - Aussteller, Medienschaffende und Besucher -, die ich über die Jahre kennenlernen durfte. Ihr wart es, die die SPIEL immer zu etwas ganz besonderem gemacht habt. Es war eine tolle Zeit mit euch. Ich werde euch vermissen!!!! Aber ich freue mich auch wie Bolle auf das Projekt Vanlife, das ich in diesem Jahr angehen werde. Auf hoffentlich viele tolle aufregende Reisen und einen neuen Lebensabschnitt! Fühlt euch umarmt und noch einmal DANKE für alles! Passt auf euch auf!"

Anfang 2022 hatte die Nürnberger Spielwarenmesse eG, Veranstalterin der weltweit größten Spielzeugfachmesse, die SPIEL übernommen. Im November kam dann Carol Rapp als weitere Geschäftsführerin dazu. Dominique Metzler, long-time organizer of SPIEL in Essen, will retire from active organization of the world's largest board game fair at the end of January. On Facebook, she wrote:

"After about 40 years, it's time to say goodbye, dear SPIELer. Because as of January 31, 2023, I will be retiring from the management of Friedhelm Merz Verlag and thus from active business, and will then only acting as a consultant in the background until the end of the year. Thank you to all the many people - exhibitors, media professionals and visitors - that I have had the pleasure of meeting over the years. It was you who always made SPIEL something very special. It was a great time with you guys. I will miss you!!!! Now I'm looking forward to the vanlife that lies ahead of me. To hopefully many great exciting trips and a new chapter in my life! Hugs to you all and THANK YOU for everything!!"

At the beginning of 2022, Nuremberg-based Spielwarenmesse eG, organizer of the world's largest toy trade fair, had taken over SPIEL. In November, Carol Rapp joined as a third managing director.
