01.09.2026 - Erst anlässlich der SPIEL (22.-25.10.) in Essen werden die Sieger des Deutschen Spiele Preises (DSP) gekürt, den der veranstaltende Merz Verlag alljährlich Spielefans im deutschsprachigen Raum wählen lässt. Die Auszeichnung gilt als der wichtigste deutsche Publikumspreis der Branche. Schon jetzt steht aber fest, wer es aufs Treppchen geschafft hat: Die ersten drei Plätze werden - in alphabetischer Reihenfolge - Artengarten von Mathias Wigge (Verlag: Feuerland), Boss Fighters QR von Lukas Zach und Michael Palm (Pegasus Spiele) sowie Galactic Cruise von T. K. King, Dennis Northcott und Koltin Thomson (PD-Verlag) unter sich ausmachen, die tatsächliche Rangverteilung verrät die SPIEL erst zur Messe.
Die restliche Top 10 wurde allerdings schon jetzt veröffentlicht, und dies auch mit den einzelnen Platzierungen:
4: Herr der Ringe: Das Schicksal der Gemeinschaft von Matt Leacock (Z-MAN/Asmodee)
5: Take Time von Alexi Piovesan und Julien Prothière (Libellud/Asmodee)
6: Rebirth von Reiner Knizia (Frosted Games)
7: Cozy Stickerville von Corey Konieczka (Unexpected Games/Asmodee)
8: Am Goldenen Fluss von Keith Piggott (Kosmos)
9: Star Trek - Captain´s Chair von Nigel Buckle und Dávid Turczi (Frosted Games)
10: Mischwald – Dartmoor von Kosch (Lookout /Asmodee)
Auffällig ist, dass hier das Publikum teils anders entschied als die bekannteste Fachjury. Dito! von Martin Ang (Game Factory), "Spiel des Jahres"-Sieger 2026, konnte sich bei der Verbraucherwahl nicht unter die beliebtesten Titel mischen. Ebenfalls fehlt das SdJ-nominierte Morty Sorty Magic Shop von Markus Slawitscheck (Schmidt Spiele), während mit Cozy Stickerville zumindest ein SdJ-Nominierter vertreten ist. Von der SdJ-Empfehlungsliste ist Take Time bekannt.
Der DSP schickt fürs "Kennerspiel des Jahres" (KdJ) relevante Titel nicht separat ins Rennen, weshalb sie sich hier mit den Familienspielen messen müssen. Am erfolgreichsten taten dies in der Top 3 der KdJ-Nominierte Boss Fighters QR sowie Artengarten, das die Kennerspiel-Jury in ihre Empfehlungsliste gewählt hatte. Der Kennerspiel-des-Jahres-Gewinner Rebirth folgt im DSP-Publikumsranking auf Platz 6.
Unter den Kinderspielen landete der "Kinderspiel des Jahres"-Sieger 2026 auch beim DSP im Finale: Die Insel der Mookies von Florian Sirieix (Kosmos) darf auf eine weitere Trophäe hoffen, muss dazu aber im Wettbewerb mit der übrigen Top 3 bestehen. In alphabetischer Reihenfolge haben dabei Paleolino von Marco Teubner (Hans im Glück) und Toriki: Eine Insel voller Abenteuer von Wojciech Grajkowski (Mirakulus) noch ein Wörtchen mitzureden. Die SdJ-Jury hatte Toriki auf der "Spiel des Jahres"-Empfehlungsliste eher als Familienspiel betrachtet. Paleolino hingegen war unter den "Kinderspiel des Jahres"-Empfehlungen. Wer die meisten DSP-Stimmen erhielt, erfährt man auch in diesem Fall zur SPIEL-Eröffnung im Oktober.

The winners of the German game award Deutscher Spiele Preis (DSP) won't be announced until SPIEL (Oct. 22–25) in Essen. Every year, its organizer, Merz Verlag, invites game fans in German-speaking countries to vote for their favorites. The award is considered the industry’s most important German consumer award. However, it’s already been announced who has made it onto the podium: The top three spots will be contested — in alphabetical order — by Artengarten / Sanctuary by Mathias Wigge (publisher: Feuerland), Boss Fighters QR by Lukas Zach and Michael Palm (Pegasus Spiele), and Galactic Cruise by T. K. King, Dennis Northcott, and Koltin Thomson (PD-Verlag). As usual, SPIEL won't reveal the actual rankings until the start of the fair.

In some cases, the public’s choices differed from those of the most well-known expert jury. Dito! by Martin Ang (Game Factory), the “Spiel des Jahres” winner of 2026, failed to make it into the ranks of the most popular titles in the consumer poll. Also missing is the “Spiel des Jahres” nominee Morty Sorty Magic Shop by Markus Slawitscheck (Schmidt Spiele), while at least one “Spiel des Jahres” nominee, Cozy Stickerville, is represented. Take Time had been on the “Spiel des Jahres” list of recommended games.
The DSP does not enter titles relevant to the “Kennerspiel des Jahres” category for experienced players into the competition separately, which is why they must compete here alongside the family games. The most successful in this regard were the Kennerspiel nominee Boss Fighters QR and Sanctuary, which the Kennerspiel jury had selected for its recommendation list. The Kennerspiel winner, Rebirth, follows in 6th place in the DSP audience ranking.
Among children’s games, the 2026 “Kinderspiel des Jahres” winner also made it to the finals at the DSP: Mooki Island by Florian Sirieix (Kosmos) has a shot at another trophy, but to win it, it must hold its own against the rest of the top 3. In alphabetical order, Paleolino by Marco Teubner (Hans im Glück) and Toriki: The Castaway Island by Wojciech Grajkowski (Mirakulus) still have a say in the matter. The SdJ jury had classified Toriki as more of a family game on the “Spiel des Jahres” recommendation list. Paleolino, on the other hand, was among the “Kinderspiel des Jahres” recommendations. The children's game that receives the most DSP votes will be announced in time for the opening of SPIEL in October.
