(th)

Leipzig's modell-hobby-spiel is making a comeback: On October 1-3, the consumer fair for model making, technology, games and DIY will be the first show of its kind in Leipzig to end its pandemic hiatus of more than a year. For the twelfth time, the "Graf Ludo" prize for the best graphic designs of board games will be awarded at the fair. The following artists are in the running in the category most beautiful illustrations in children's games: Irina Pechenkina and Eugene Smolenceva with Storytailors (Publisher: Lifestyle Boardgames / Asmodee), Yann Valeani and Jules Dubost with Ghost Adventure (Pegasus Spiele), Xavier Durin / Naïade with Similo (Horrible Guild / HeidelBÄR Games), Maud Chalmel with Dream Catcher (Space Cow / Asmodee) as well as Rolf Vogt with Wald der Lichter (Drei Magier / Schmidt).

The winner(s) of the category most beautiful illustrations in family games will be either: Ondřej Hrdina with Lost Ruins of Arnak (Czech Games Edition / HeidelBÄR), Alexandre Bonvalot with Dive (Pegasus), Andrew Bosley with Everdell (Starling / Pegasus), Dennis Lohausen, Oliver Schlemmer and Michael Menzel with Monster Expedition (Amigo), Jimin Kim with Spicy (HeidelBÄR) or Matthew Mizak with Tang Garden (Skellig). A six-person jury and members of the player network Spiele-Offensive will continue to narrow down the finalists until August, when a smaller number of nominees will be announced.

According to modell-hobby-spiel's project director Heike Fischer, there are still hygiene and safety requirements, but these can be implemented "without endangering the event character of the fair". This also includes visitors trying out products at the booths. Almost 100 associations and initiatives want to present their hobbies. One of the show's five main segments is the modelmaking area with driving, flying and floating miniatures, ranging from drones to boats and model trains. The "Tekkie Area" revolves around robotics and other technologies, while "Spielwiese" focuses on games and toys.  Hobbyists and artists will find new ideas in "Kreativraum", while the "Sport Park" will feature a skateboard and BMX ramp. Tickets will only be available online and in advance starting in September because all visitor data needs to be recorded. Details on the "Safe Expo" security concept can be found here
