The members of the high IQ society Mensa in Deutschland (MinD) have spoken: In three categories, they honored Glasgow, Project L and Ark Nova with the MinD Games Award 2022.

Among the nominated two-player games, Glasgow by Mandela Fernández-Grandon prevailed with the most votes, published by Lookout Spiele, which has been appearing in MinD rankings quite frequently. According to Mensa, two-player titles continue to enjoy high popularity even after the end of lockdowns, although larger rounds have been possible again for some time. Glasgow scored 10.9 out of a maximum of 15 points for ambition and replay appeal with the idea of having merchants build the eponymous city on the River Clyde; this is achieved as soon as 20 buildings have been constructed, which are then scored for both players. Paris - The City of Lights by José Antonio Abascal (Kosmos, 9.9 points) and Foothills by Ben Bateson and Snowdonia designer Tony Boydell (Lookout, 9.7 points) came in second and third, respectively.

There was a clear winner among the games with short duration: Project L by Adam Spanel, Jan Soukal and Michal Mikeš, published by Asmodee, beat the other runners-up by a wide margin. In this puzzle, areas are filled with tiles reminiscent of Tetris; completed tasks bring new tiles and points for the final score. This requires pondering if one fills already available areas or adds new ones. With the help of a master action, areas can be completed faster, bonus tiles may complete a second one in the same turn. The runner-up Canvas by Jeff Chin and Andrew Nerger (also Asmodee) scored 63% of the winner's points. Third place went to Team3 by Alex Cutler and Matt Fantastic (Abacusspiele) with 60%.

The third MinD category of complex games was dominated by a clear winner as well, namely Mathias Wigge's debut Ark Nova, published by Feuerland. It garnered 12.3 out of a possible 15 points with the strategic planning of a zoo: In addition to building animal enclosures, victory points can be earned in species protection and the academic reputation of the zoo. Also making it onto the podium were Vital Lacerda's Kanban EV (Eagle Gryphon Games, 11.0 points) and Boonlake (dlp games, 10.9 points) by Alexander Pfister, who's already been nominated four times in the MinD Top 3, but hasn't been able to win the award yet.
