01.07.2021 – Rund zweieinhalb Wochen vor der Verleihung des wichtigsten Spielepreises der Welt, des Spiel des Jahres, wurde nun das österreichische Pendant ausgezeichnet: Flyin‘ Goblin von Corentin Lebrat und Théo Rivière überzeugte die Jury der Wiener Spieleakademie und wurde „Spiel der Spiele 2021“. Der Titel ist bei Iello erschienen und somit in Deutschland bei Huch im Vertrieb. Thomas Bareder, der den Vorsitz der Spieleakademie von Dagmar de Cassan übernommen hat, sagt über den Preisträger: „ Ein höchst einladender, skurril-witziger Action-, aber auch Taktik-Spaß, der Geschicklichkeit und Strategie-Elemente clever kombiniert.“

Neben dem Hauptpreis, der im Grunde für „nahezu alle Zielgruppen interessant sein soll“, wie es in der aktuellen Pressemitteilung heißt, gibt es noch sechs Nebenpreise. Dabei gab es folgender Gewinner:

Spiele-Hit für Experten: 2491 Planetship von Antonio Sousa Lara (Mebo Games/Heidelbär Games)

Spiele-Hit für Karten: Jinx von Klaus Altenburger (Piatnik)

Spiele-Hit für Trend-Spiele: Break In. Area 51 von David Yakos (Schmidt Spiele)

Wie auch in Deutschland wächst in Österreich die Lust am Spiel, konstatiert die Akademie. Was eben auch an den Lockdowns, aber nicht nur daran gehangen habe. So verzeichnete die Branche laut Bareder ein Umsatzplus von 30 Prozent, wobei das Segment der Familienspiele sogar um 40 Prozent zugelegt habe. Und obwohl große Veranstaltungen wie die SPIEL in Essen, die Spielwarenmesse in Nürnberg oder auch das Spielefest in Wien, das die Akademie zusammen mit dem Nostheide-Verlag veranstaltet, der auch die Zeitschriften spielbox und SPIEL DOCH! herausgibt, abgesagt werden mussten, sei die Lust am Spiel ungebremst.

„Wir müssen leider auch das für November geplante Spielefest 2021 schweren Herzens absagen. Das Thema Spielen liegt uns ganz besonders am Herzen, und es hat in der Pandemie noch zusätzlich an Bedeutung gewonnen. Daher freuen wir uns schon jetzt auf das Spielefest 2022, das wir vom 18. bis 20. November 2022 wieder bei uns veranstalten werden. Als Überbrückung und im Sinne der langjährigen Tradition fand die Bekanntgabe des Österreichischen Spielepreises im Austria Center Vienna statt. Nächstes Jahr werden wir dann auch erstmalig die Verleihung im großen Rahmen beim Spielefest 2022 durchführen können“, sagte Susanne Baumann-Söllner, Direktorin des Austria Center Vienna. (ab)

As in Germany, the desire for games is growing in Austria, the academy stated. This was also, but not only, due to the lockdowns. According to Bareder, the industry recorded a 30 percent increase in sales, with the family games segment even growing by 40 percent. And although major events such as SPIEL in Essen, the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg and even the Spielefest in Vienna, which the academy organizes together with Nostheide-Verlag (publisher of the magazines spielbox and SPIEL DOCH!), had to be canceled, the desire to play games remained unchecked.

Susanne Baumann-Söllner, director of host and fair organizer Austria Center Vienna, commented: "Unfortunately, we also have to cancel the Spielefest 2021 planned for November with a heavy heart. The topic of play is particularly close to our hearts, and it has gained even more importance in the pandemic. Therefore, we are already looking forward to the festival of 2022, which we will be hosting from November 18 to 20, 2022. As a bridging event and in the spirit of long-standing tradition, the announcement of the Austrian games award took place at the Austria Center Vienna. Next year, we will then also be able to hold the award ceremony on a grand scale for the first time at the Spielefest 2022."
